Common Orthodontic Issues

Orthodontic problems are far more common than most people realize, and nearly all of them are treatable. Understanding what is happening with your bite is the first step toward fixing it. Here are the issues we treat most often at Rogers & Andrews Orthodontics.

Bite Problems

When the upper and lower teeth do not line up the way they should, everyday function can suffer. Common bite concerns include:

  • Overbite — upper front teeth overlap the lower teeth too much
  • Underbite — lower teeth sit in front of the upper teeth
  • Crossbite — some upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth
  • Open bite — the front teeth do not touch when biting down

Spacing Problems

Sometimes there is too little room — or too much. Crowding happens when teeth lack space and overlap or twist, while spacing leaves noticeable gaps. Both can affect appearance and make cleaning harder, raising the risk of decay and gum issues.

Why It Matters

Left untreated, these issues can lead to uneven wear, jaw strain, difficulty chewing, and a smile you would rather hide. The good news is that orthodontic treatment — from LightForce to Invisalign — can correct virtually all of them.

Catching Issues Early

Many concerns are easiest to guide when caught young, which is why we recommend an early evaluation by age 7. For severe skeletal cases, surgical orthodontics may be part of the plan.
